Welcome to Klerekas!

Our journey began in autumn 2018. Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of Clarens after a weekend getaway, our lives changed forever. It was during that drive back that a conversations between Johan, my husband, and I ablaze and the idea for Klerekas was born. We both shared a mutual passion for fashion and an irresistible urge to break free from the nine-to-five grind. The dream of starting a local fashion brand became our reality.

We embarked on this adventure, considering a lot of ideas until the name "Klerekas" emerged, drawing from the Afrikaans word for "wardrobe."

Initially, our vision was to craft stylish button-down shirts for men, as the market in South Africa really lacked such offerings. Eager to share our vision, we started marketing our new online website on social media and our local community's enthusiasm was soon ignited.

But as fate would have it, a week before the launch, reality hit. We couldn't just launch an online store called "Klerekas" dedicated solely to six designer men's shirts. Undeterred, we decided to collaborate with other local entrepreneurs, offering their remarkable products through Klerekas. Thus, our expanded vision was born.

On the 1st of June 2018, Klerekas was proudly unveiled to the world.

The journey since then has been a whirlwind of growth, learning experiences, and yes, a few missteps. We've attended markets, organised countless photoshoots, and sent out over 14,000 parcels. Through it all, we stumbled, encountered obstacles, extended apologies, and learned some very important lessons. But one thing remains steadfast—we're still the same spirited twenty-somethings with a shared dream.
